What to Expect from Mental Health Training in Plymouth
How the Day Is Structured
In general, the mental health training course will consist of a combination of presentations, group work and guided activities. Typically the Trainer will structure the course over a number of blocks to cover areas such as recognising signs of distress, an overview of common mental health conditions and when to refer for support.
Practising Real Conversations
Most of the time you will be in small groups practising conversations in order to try and help someone who appears to be in distress. During these exercises you will practice approaching the person, having the conversation and listening to their response without immediately suggesting help and resources.
Scenarios and Role-Play
We use realistic, workplace situations to practice using your newly acquired skills. You will work in pairs or small groups and practice dealing with a range of scenarios including someone who is behaving out of character or someone who has disclosed that they have been feeling overwhelmed.
